Frequently asked questions about marriage certificate translations

Why do I need a certified translation of our marriage certificate?

Certified translations are generally recognized by foreign authorities, courts, and registry offices. Anyone who needs to present their marriage certificate abroad after marriage requires an official translation by a sworn translator. These translators are state-certified and authorized to translate and certify official documents and certificates for recognition in other countries.

Where can I have a marriage certificate translated?

A marriage certificate is an official document and usually requires a certified translation to be accepted abroad. You should always contact a specialized translation agency for such a translation. State-certified and sworn translators translate documents and certificates and are authorized to certify them. If you're looking for such a specialized translation agency, you've come to the right place.

How much does a certified translation of a marriage certificate cost?

Who translates and certifies marriage certificates?

Marriage certificates, like most official documents, are translated exclusively by sworn translators. These translators (in our case in Germany) are authorized translators who have taken a general oath before a regional court, higher regional court, or internal affairs authority. They are certified and have the necessary authorization and qualifications to translate and certify content into specific languages.

How do I determine the page count?

A single page is one side of a sheet of paper (regardless of word count). Front and back count as two separate pages. For translation purposes, we count all relevant pages of your original document. The total page count is the sum of all individual pages.

Is my data kept confidential?

Always. Your documents and data are treated with the highest level of confidentiality.
We're not just saying this – we're certified for it:

ISO/IEC 27001 – information security (your data is protected like bank documents)
ISO 17100 – translation service quality
ISO 9001 – quality management

Your birth certificate, your contract, your diploma... they're as safe with us as they are in your own filing cabinet.

  • For what exactly?

Marriage certificates are official documents and therefore are not accepted abroad as a simple translation. In other words: If a foreign authority requests your marriage certificate, you need a certified translation. But when does that even happen? The reasons can be both pleasant and not so pleasant: recognition of a marriage in another country, adoption of a child abroad, deaths and inheritances abroad, divorce abroad, name changes on identity documents, naturalization in another country, or applying for a new citizenship.

Regardless of your specific case, at Belaubigung24 we take care of: certified translations of German marriage certificates into other languages and the translation and certification of foreign documents for German authorities.

  • Wedding in Germany – and life abroad

A marriage concluded in Germany is generally recognized abroad – provided you can provide appropriate proof of it. The easiest way to do this is with a certified translation. Registry offices do not normally issue these official translations; specialized translation agencies with sworn translators are responsible for this. It's best to obtain information early on about the requirements of the relevant foreign authority. If a certified translation of the German marriage certificate is required, we would be happy to assist you.

  • Marriage abroad – and then off to Germany

Whether in Las Vegas, the Canary Islands, or the other side of the world – anyone who chooses an exotic wedding location and subsequently plans to live in Germany cannot avoid having their marriage recognized by a German registry office. In this case, a foreign marriage certificate is usually only accepted if translated and certified. German authorities also generally require a certified translation of the marriage certificate for other cases (e.g., naturalization or a name change on an identity document).

  • Your togetherness – secured by our triple certification

We can't make your marriage look better, but we can make dealing with the authorities easier. Our state-certified and sworn translators will provide you with certified translations of your marriage certificate that are recognized in the respective country. Our service is triple ISO certified: for our translation services (ISO 17100:2015), our quality management (ISO 9001:2015), and our information security (ISO/IEC 27001:2013).

  • When do I need a translation of my marriage certificate?

    - Divorce
    - Application for citizenship
