We're happy to do the latter for you. We translate your German driver's license into the desired target language or your foreign driver's license into German, so you can drive a car anywhere. Or a motorcycle, scooter, truck, motorboat, forklift...

    *A notice!
In some cases, German authorities require a classification in addition to a certified translation of driver's licenses from non-EU countries. We don't currently offer this service, but you'll soon be able to order a driver's license with a classification from us. Your driver's license office will determine whether you need a classification. Ask your local authority.

This is how quickly and easily you can get your certified translation:

Step 1: Upload your driver's license and select your language

Upload your driver's license – ideally as a high-resolution PDF or alternatively as a JPG or PNG – at the top of this page. If you haven't scanned the original yet, we recommend using our photo upload feature: simply open this page with your smartphone, take a photo of your driver's license during the ordering process, and upload it (please ensure the photo is legible). Just select the source and desired target languages, and you're ready to go.

Step 2: Add your order to your shopping cart or complete your order via quick checkout

You can then either use our quick checkout and submit your order with just a few clicks, or you can add it to your shopping cart. Here you can add additional documents, papers, or certificates from our shop. Once all orders are in your shopping cart, select a payment method (e.g., PayPal or credit card), enter your contact information, and you're done.

Step 3: Have a certified translation created

From here, we take over the steering and forward your order directly to our sworn translators. They will translate your driver's license into the desired target language, format the translation, and certify it. We will then send the officially certified driver's license translation to you. Within a very short time, it will be in your email inbox as a PDF and in your mailbox as a hard copy.

And if you are satisfied with it, please leave us a positive review.

Frequently asked questions about driving license translations

Why do I need a certified translation for my driver's license?

In other countries, your own valid driver's license is not necessarily considered an official driving license. Depending on the country of issue and use, you may need a verified driver's license translation to legally drive on the roads. Such a certified or official translation confirms the authenticity of the original driver's license and entitles you to drive abroad. Alternatively, an international driver's license is also acceptable.

When do I need to have my driver’s license translated?

Whether a translation of a driving license is necessary depends on two factors: the country of issue and the country in which the license will be used. Driving licenses issued in one EU country are generally valid in all EU countries. You usually need to have your driving license translated if the original license is not accepted as an official document in the country of use. In this case, you need a certified translation by a sworn translator.

How much does a certified translation of a driver’s license cost?

The cost of a certified translation is typically based on the translation service, the certification of the translation, and the language combination, regardless of the document being translated. At Belaubigung24, you can get a certified driver's license translation starting at €48.90. This translation is always prepared by state-certified translators and officially verified.

Into which languages can I have my driver's license translated?

Bei Sworn Translators kannst du beglaubigte Übersetzungen in 19 Sprachkombinationen bestellen. Eine der beiden Sprachen, also die Ausgangs- oder Zielsprache, sollte Deutsch sein.

Who translates and certifies driving licenses?

Only sworn translators should translate a driver's license—and other official documents, too. As so-called authorized translators, who have taken an oath before a regional court, higher regional court, or an internal affairs authority, they are state-certified and authorized to translate and certify documents into other languages.

How do I determine the page count?

A single page is one side of a sheet of paper (regardless of word count). Front and back count as two separate pages. For translation purposes, we count all relevant pages of your original document. The total page count is the sum of all individual pages.

Is my data kept confidential?

Always. Your documents and data are treated with the highest level of confidentiality.
We're not just saying this – we're certified for it:

ISO/IEC 27001 – information security (your data is protected like bank documents)
ISO 17100 – translation service quality
ISO 9001 – quality management

Your birth certificate, your contract, your diploma... they're as safe with us as they are in your own filing cabinet.

  • Anyone planning to drive a car (or any other motor vehicle) abroad should always make sure that their national driver's license is valid beyond their home country. One option is to apply for an international driver's license at the local driver's license office (for a fee). Another option is to have your license certified—and we're experts in this. If you're planning your next trip abroad, be sure to check out our tips.

  • Driving abroad with a German driving license

A German driver's license is virtually equivalent to an EU driver's license, as it is generally recognized and valid in all European Union countries. This may be different for driving in non-EU countries. In these cases, you may need a certified translation of your license. We can provide this quickly and certified in just a few days, so nothing stands in the way of your next trip abroad.

  • Driving in Germany with a foreign driving license

With a driver's license from an EU (and EEA) country, it is generally possible to drive on German roads without a translation. However, this is not always the case for non-EU citizens with a driver's license from their home country. If the driver's license is not accepted and your stay in Germany is temporary (usually less than six months), you will need a certified translation of your driver's license into German. If you need such a translation, you can order it quickly and easily at the top of this page.

Regardless of whether you have a German or foreign driving license, we recommend that you inform yourself about the country-specific regulations before you set off when driving to or abroad.

  • Safety first – that’s why we are triple certified

If you need to present your translated driver's license abroad (e.g., when renting a car or at a police check), a simple translation is not sufficient as an official document. To ensure that your license is accepted without any problems in such situations, we only use sworn translators authorized to certify official documents. Furthermore, our service is triple ISO-certified: for our translation services (ISO 17100:2015), our quality management (ISO 9001:2015), and our information security (ISO/IEC 27001:2013).

  • Where can I have my driver’s license translated?

A driver's license translation can be done by sworn translators or issued by official automobile clubs. You can obtain a recognized translation at selected ADAC offices or—quickly and easily—in our online shop. Simply upload your document, select the source and target languages, and order. We'll create a certified translation of your driver's license within a few days, which is also accepted abroad.

  • In which countries is the German driving license not recognized?

The German driver's license is recognized both within the European Union (EU) and in the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA). It is also valid in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Switzerland, and Turkey. Outside of these countries, a German driver's license is not sufficient to drive a motor vehicle. To drive a car or other vehicle here, you must apply for an international driver's license or have your license certified and translated.

  • Is a foreign driving license also valid in Germany?

If you are from a country in the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) and are traveling to Germany, you generally do not need to have your driver's license translated. This also applies to people from Andorra, Hong Kong, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, or Senegal. If you are from another country and are temporarily staying in Germany, you may drive a vehicle if you A) have a valid national driver's license or B) have an international driver's license or a certified translation of your driver's license with you.
If you stay in Germany for more than 185 days and also register your residence here, you must have your foreign driver's license converted. The responsible authorities require the original and a certified translation of your license.

  • How long is the driving license translation valid?

The certified translation of your driver's license is valid for the same period as the original. We only translate the contents of the document, including the expiration date. You will only need a new translation once you receive a new driver's license after its expiration date.
