Whether you need to have your certificate translated (and certified) always depends on the recipient. Schools and universities usually require a certified translation of certificates. When applying for a job abroad, employers have different requirements. Some require a (certified) translation of school and employment certificates, while for others, certificates are less important in the application process. Therefore, you should always clarify with your new employer or university in advance whether you need to submit a certified translation of your certificates.

Of course, you can always translate certificates yourself or with the help of a translation tool, but be careful: Most offices, authorities, and public institutions won't accept self-translated certificates! In these cases, you'll usually need to submit a certified translation, created by a sworn translator and verified with a stamp and signature. The same applies to universities and schools.
